Is a Regular Cleaning Service Worth It? When It Pays for Itself
Is a regular cleaning service worth it? Yearly cost, hours saved, recurring vs deep cleans in Snohomish & King County. Text for a written price.
By Yuri and Tatiana, owners of Shining Cleanse LLC, a family cleaning company based in Everett, WA and licensed in 10 cities across Snohomish and King County.
Is a regular cleaning service worth it? For many busy households, yes. Every-two-weeks cleaning of a 2-bedroom home costs $320 a visit with us, about $8,320 a year, and frees about 78 hours a year if cleaning takes you 3 hours each time. Recurring visits have a fixed price per visit, and the more often we come, the less each visit costs.
Below is the math, using our published prices and named sources, so you can run it for your own home.
Is it worth paying for regular house cleaning?
It depends on three numbers: what a visit costs, how much of your time it replaces, and how much buildup it prevents. Recurring cleaning with us is a maintenance visit on a fixed schedule at a fixed price per visit, after one first deep or standard clean sets the baseline. It is not hourly: the price stays the same if a visit runs long. Per visit, from our pricing page:
| Frequency | Studio or 1 bed | 2 bed | 3 bed | 2 bed, per year |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Weekly | $270 | $300 | $330 | $15,600 (52 visits) |
| Every 2 weeks | $290 | $320 | $350 | $8,320 (26 visits) |
| Monthly | $320 | $350 | $380 | $4,200 (12 visits) |
A 4-bedroom is $360 weekly, $380 every two weeks and $410 monthly. Add $20 per bathroom over one; homes with 5 or more bedrooms are quoted. Which frequency fits most homes is covered in weekly vs biweekly house cleaning, and how our prices compare with the market is in house cleaning cost in Snohomish and King County. For the newborn weeks, when saved hours count most, see our postpartum cleaning service page.
How much time does recurring cleaning save?
An every-two-weeks visit for a 2–3 bedroom home usually takes the two of us about 2 hours. If doing it yourself takes 3 hours every two weeks, that is 78 hours a year.
Put your own value on those hours. At $35 an hour, 78 hours is $2,730. Every-two-weeks service for a 2- or 3-bedroom home is $320 to $350 a visit, about $8,320 to $9,100 a year, so the real extra cost over doing it yourself is about $5,590 to $6,370 a year. If your time is worth about $107 an hour or more, the 2-bedroom service costs less than your own hours.
The time also drops with continuity. The same owners come every visit, keep your preferences on file, and add one rotating extra each time, such as a set of baseboards or a vent cover, so the home stays ahead of buildup. We run recurring schedules in Mill Creek and our other licensed cities. If you are home during the day, here is how a visit fits around meetings: house cleaning while working from home.
Before
AfterDoes regular cleaning make carpets and floors last longer?
Regular vacuuming helps, because grit ground into carpet acts like sandpaper under foot traffic. The EPA notes that indoor levels of some pollutants may be 2 to 5 times higher than outdoor levels. We mention it as context only; we don’t claim a cleaning visit changes your indoor air.
Many carpet warranties also require periodic professional hot water extraction; check yours. At our prices, three rooms of carpet are $220 a cleaning. On hardwood we mop with damp microfiber, never a soaking mop, and on bathroom grout we use steam, which lifts the soil that yellows it.
Is recurring cleaning cheaper than occasional deep cleans?
Per visit, yes. Per year, occasional deep cleans cost less, but the home is only fully clean right after each one. For a 2-bedroom home:
- Deep clean four times a year: $360 × 4 = $1,440
- Monthly recurring after one first deep clean: $360 + $350 × 11 = $4,210
- Every two weeks after one first deep clean: $360 + $320 × 25 = $8,360
A home cleaned two weeks ago takes less time than a 2-bedroom deep clean, which is why a recurring visit costs less than the $360 deep clean. If you only want a periodic reset, read whether deep cleaning is worth it first.
If you would rather do it yourself, the tools matter more than the products: a sealed vacuum, color-coded microfiber instead of paper towels, and a quarterly pass on baseboards, vents and behind appliances.
Our jobFAQ
Can I skip a recurring visit?
Yes. Text us at least 24 hours ahead and there is no charge. You can also pause or stop recurring service by text; there is no contract for residential service.
Will the same people clean my home every time?
Yes. Yuri and Tatiana, the owners, do every visit. There are no crews or subcontractors, so the people who learn your home on the first visit are the ones who come back.
Can I add the fridge or oven to one recurring visit?
Yes. Add-ons are flat and can be added to a single visit by text: inside the fridge $56, inside the oven $56, interior windows $86.
