House Cleaning While You Work From Home

House cleaning while working from home: video calls, which rooms go first, how long the noise lasts, and your home office. Text for a written price.

By Yuri and Tatiana, owners of Shining Cleanse LLC, a family cleaning company based in Everett, WA and licensed in 10 cities across Snohomish and King County.

House cleaning while working from home works if you plan the order. Send us your meeting times, and we clean your office first or last, save the vacuum for your breaks, and keep to quiet work near your door. Two of us finish a recurring visit to a 2-bedroom home in about two hours.

Redmond and Kirkland are full of home offices. The real worry is rarely whether a cleaner can work around you; it is how disruptive the visit will be. Our answer: less than you expect, if we agree on a few things before the first visit.

Can cleaners work while I am on video calls?

Yes. Tell us when your calls are, roughly, and which room you take them from. During a call we do not enter that room, we keep the vacuum on the far side of the house, and we keep our voices down. Most of a cleaning is quiet anyway: wiping counters, cleaning bathrooms, dusting. Steam on tile makes a soft hiss, not a roar.

If a call runs long or a new one appears, text us from your desk. We move to another room. That is easier than you stepping out to explain.

Two practical things. Close the door of your office during calls; it is the one signal everybody understands. And if your camera faces a hallway, tell us, so we are not the ones walking through the background of your quarterly review.

Which rooms should be cleaned first if I work from home?

Your office goes first or last. First works if you start late: we clean it while you have coffee, and you sit down to a clean desk. Last works if you start early: we clean the rest of the house while you work and do the office during your lunch break.

A typical order on a work-from-home day:

  1. The office, before your first meeting, or during a break you name.
  2. Bedrooms and bathrooms, which are usually far from where you work.
  3. The kitchen, at a time you are not cooking lunch.
  4. Living areas and floors, with the vacuum timed for a gap between calls.

You do not have to build the schedule. Send us your day in one line (“calls 10–11 and 2–3, lunch at 12:30”) and we plan around it.

How long will the noise last?

The vacuum is the only loud part, and it runs a few minutes per room. Spread over a visit, that is the noise to plan around. Everything else sounds like someone tidying in the next room.

For a sense of total time: on a recurring visit, a studio or 1-bedroom takes two of us about 1.5 to 2 hours, a 2-bedroom about 2 hours, and a 3-bedroom about 2 to 2.5 hours, depending on frequency. We text 30 minutes before we arrive, so the doorbell does not ring in the middle of a sentence.

Is a home office part of a standard cleaning?

Yes. It is a room like any other: we dust reachable surfaces, wipe the desk around what is on it, empty the trash and do the floor. What we do not do is move papers, unplug things or rearrange your setup. Papers stay where they are; organizing is not part of a cleaning. If you want the desk surface done fully, clear it before we come, and we clean all of it.

Keyboards, monitors and docks are yours to decide. Some people want them wiped, some do not want anyone touching them. Tell us once and we keep it in the notes for every visit.

Should I be home during a house cleaning?

You do not have to be. Many clients leave a door code or lockbox and come back to a clean house. Working from home just means you are there anyway, and that is fine with us. The upside is that you can show us anything on the first visit in thirty seconds instead of writing a note.

How often should a work-from-home house be cleaned?

More often than an office-commute house of the same size. When you are home all day, the kitchen gets three meals instead of one, the bathroom gets more use, and the floors see more traffic. For most people working from home we would suggest every two weeks; with kids or pets, weekly.

Recurring cleaning is a visit on a fixed day at a fixed price per visit, after a first deep or standard clean:

FrequencyStudio or 1 bed2 bed3 bed
Weekly$270$300$330
Every two weeks$290$320$350
Monthly$320$350$380

Here is a fair way to decide whether it is worth it. Take an every-two-weeks visit for a 2-bedroom, $320, and compare it with the hours you would spend cleaning the same rooms yourself, at the hourly value you put on your own evenings and weekends. If the two numbers are close, keep cleaning yourself. If they are not, our weekly vs biweekly comparison and when regular cleaning pays for itself go further. There is no contract. You skip or move a visit with 24 hours notice at no charge, and stop with a text. We work in Redmond and nine other licensed cities.

FAQ

Can you come on the same day and time every week?

Yes. Recurring visits are scheduled on a fixed day, and we text a reminder the day before. If you have a day with no meetings, that is the one to pick.

Do you need anything from me during the visit?

Not really. Show us where the trash bags live and which rooms are off limits on the first visit. After that you can stay at your desk; questions come by text.

Can you clean only part of the house on a busy day?

Recurring visits have a fixed price per visit, so the price is the same either way. On a busy day, tell us which rooms matter most and we do those first, then the rest as your calls allow.

Will the visit disturb my Wi-Fi or power?

No. We plug the vacuum into a regular outlet and do not touch your network equipment, except to dust around it if you want us to.
