Postpartum Cleaning Service: Help for the First 8 Weeks
A postpartum cleaning service for the newborn weeks: what a visit covers, how often, quiet work around naps, booking as a gift. Text for a written price.
By Yuri and Tatiana, owners of Shining Cleanse LLC, a family cleaning company based in Everett, WA and licensed in 10 cities across Snohomish and King County.
A postpartum cleaning service is regular house cleaning booked for the weeks after a baby arrives, so the parents spend their time on the baby and on rest. With us, weekly visits cost $270 for a studio or 1 bedroom, $300 for 2 bedrooms and $330 for 3 bedrooms. Laundry, wash and fold, is a $46 add-on.
We are a two-owner company, Yuri and Tatiana, and we do every visit ourselves. That matters more in the newborn weeks than at any other time: the people who come into the house are the same two people every week, and they already know where the bassinet is.
Can you clean your house after giving birth?
That is a question for your doctor, midwife or care team, not for a cleaning company. Recovery is different for every birth, and they know your history. Ask them directly what lifting, bending and stairs are fine, and for how long.
What we can say is which household jobs involve the most of those motions, so you know what to ask about and what to hand off:
- scrubbing a tub or shower, which means kneeling and leaning
- vacuuming, especially stairs and under beds
- carrying full laundry baskets up and down stairs
- mopping floors on your knees or with a heavy bucket
- changing a mattress cover or a heavy duvet
Those are exactly the jobs a recurring visit covers. The small things, such as wiping a counter or loading the dishwasher, are the ones most families keep doing themselves between visits.
What does a postpartum cleaning visit include?
Each visit runs the full recurring cleaning checklist: every room dusted, floors vacuumed and mopped, kitchen counters, stovetop, microwave and sink, bathrooms cleaned top to bottom, trash out, beds made if you leave linens out. In the bathroom we use steam and dedicated color-coded cloths, so the cloth that touches the toilet never touches a counter.
A few things families add or ask for in these weeks:
| Request | How we handle it |
|---|---|
| Laundry | Wash and fold, $46 per visit, using your machine and your detergent |
| Fresh sheets | Leave a clean set out and we change the bed |
| Fragrance-free products | On request, for the whole house or only the nursery |
| A room left alone | Tell us; a sleeping room can be skipped or done last |
| Bottles and pump parts | We do not wash or sterilize these; they stay with you |
| Dishes | We load the dishwasher; a sink of hand-washing is beyond a standard visit |
We do not do childcare, overnight help or anything to do with feeding. A postpartum doula or night nurse covers that side. We cover the house.
Before
AfterHow often should a cleaner come in the newborn weeks?
Most families who book this pick weekly for the first six to eight weeks, then move to every two weeks once nights get easier. A week is about how long a house with a newborn, visitors and extra laundry stays manageable. Two weeks is fine for many homes once the routine settles.
What that costs, using our per-visit prices:
| Home | Weekly, per visit | 8 weekly visits | Every 2 weeks, per visit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Studio or 1 bedroom | $270 | $2,160 | $290 |
| 2 bedrooms | $300 | $2,400 | $320 |
| 3 bedrooms | $330 | $2,640 | $350 |
These are fixed prices per visit. A 4-bedroom is $360 weekly or $380 every two weeks; add $20 per bathroom over one, and homes with 5 or more bedrooms are quoted from photos. Recurring prices start after a first standard or deep clean, which sets the baseline, so the timing of that first visit matters. Our comparison of weekly vs biweekly house cleaning goes deeper on choosing between the two, and all prices are on the pricing page.
When should you book it?
Before the due date. We suggest booking the first visit a few weeks before, so the house starts at a clean baseline and we learn the layout while things are calm. Then set the weekly visits to start the week the baby is expected, and move dates by text if the baby has other plans.
You can skip or move any recurring visit with 24 hours notice at no charge. There is no contract. If you stop after eight weeks, you text us and that is the end of it.
Will cleaners work quietly while the baby sleeps?
Mostly, yes, with one exception: a vacuum is loud. Nobody can vacuum silently. What we can do is plan around it.
- We text 30 minutes before we arrive, and we can text again from the door instead of ringing the bell.
- Tell us which room the baby sleeps in. We leave it for last or skip it that visit.
- We vacuum the rooms farthest from the nursery first, while you settle the baby.
- If a nap starts mid-visit, we switch to wiping, dusting and bathrooms and come back to the floors.
- We work through the house without chatting, unless you want company.
The same applies to a parent who is asleep. Rest is the reason for the visit, so tell us where not to go.
Is a house cleaning a good gift for new parents?
It is one of the more useful ones, as long as the parents want it. Some people are uncomfortable with someone in the house during the first weeks, so ask before you book.
We do not sell gift cards or certificates. The way it works with us is simpler: you book the visits for them and pay for them. Text us the parents’ city and home size, the dates you want to cover and their contact. We confirm the details and access with the parents directly, and the price is in writing before the first visit. Tell us when you book that you are paying, and we arrange payment with you.
If you are working out what a few months of help would cost, our guide to house cleaning cost in Snohomish and King County has yearly and monthly numbers.
Is it worth paying for in these weeks?
Skip the “you deserve it” talk. The question is practical: how many hours a week does keeping the house running take, and what would you rather do with them right now? For most new parents the answer is sleep. A weekly visit takes the bathrooms, kitchen and floors off your list. You decide whether that trade is worth $270–$330 a week. If it is not, one visit every two weeks, or one standard clean before the birth and one six weeks after, is a smaller version of the same help. Our article on when regular cleaning pays for itself has the longer-term math.
Our jobFAQ
Do you clean around a baby’s things?
Yes. We wipe the outside of the crib, changing table and surfaces in the nursery and vacuum the floor. With the laundry add-on, baby clothes are washed the way you tell us. Bottles, pump parts and feeding gear stay with you.
Can you clean homes in Redmond during the week?
Yes. We are licensed in Redmond and nine other cities in Snohomish and King County, and we book home cleaning Monday to Saturday.
What if we need to cancel on the day?
Same-day cancellations may cost 50% of the visit price, because the slot was held for you. With 24 hours notice, moving or skipping a visit costs nothing. If you know the first weeks will be unpredictable, tell us when you book.
Can we keep the dog in during the visit?
Yes. Tell us about the dog’s temperament when you book. Many families keep a nervous dog in a closed room while we vacuum. Heavy shedding adds time on every floor and is a $42 add-on.
