What Can a House Cleaner Do in 3 Hours?

What a house cleaner can do in 3 hours, or 2: one cleaner vs two, what to put first, what will not fit and hours for a 3-bedroom. Text for a written price.

By Yuri and Tatiana, owners of Shining Cleanse LLC, a family cleaning company based in Everett, WA and licensed in 10 cities across Snohomish and King County.

In 3 hours, one house cleaner can do a maintenance clean of a home that is already kept up: the kitchen, one or two bathrooms, dusting and floors in a small home. Two cleaners working 3 hours put in 6 work hours, which with us costs $360 and covers a first standard clean of a 3-bedroom.

The number that matters is not the hours on the clock but the work hours: people times hours. We price everything that way, $120 an hour for two cleaners ($60 per person-hour), so it is easy to see what a block of time buys. Below is what fits into 2, 3 and 6 work hours, and what to put first when time is short.

What can a cleaner do in 3 hours?

It depends on how many people are cleaning and on the state of the home when they arrive.

WhoWork hoursWhat it usually covers
One cleaner, 3 hours3A maintenance clean of a kept-up studio or 1-bedroom: kitchen, bathroom, dusting, floors
Two cleaners, 1.5 hours3The same work, done in half the clock time
Two cleaners, 2 hours4A first standard clean of a studio or 1-bedroom
Two cleaners, 3 hours6A first standard clean of a 3-bedroom, a deep clean of a 2-bedroom, or a move-out of a studio or 1-bedroom

Three work hours fits a home that is already kept up: there is not much to catch up on, so the time goes into a full pass of every room rather than into scrubbing old buildup. With us, a one-time visit is at least 4 work hours ($240). Our recurring cleaning is not sold by the hour: a weekly visit is a fixed $270 for a studio or 1-bedroom, $300 for 2 bedrooms and $330 for 3, and the price stays the same if a visit runs long.

What can a cleaner do in 2 hours?

Less than people hope. Two hours of one person is enough to clean a kitchen and a bathroom properly, or to do a quick pass of a small, tidy apartment. It is not enough to clean a whole family home.

With us, a one-time visit has a 4 work hour minimum ($240), so the shortest one-time booking is two of us for 2 hours. That covers a first standard clean of a studio or 1-bedroom. We set the minimum there because below it, travel and setup eat too much of the visit to do a proper job.

How much can two cleaners do in 3 hours?

Six work hours goes a long way in a maintained home. Our hourly packages show what usually fits:

  • a first standard clean of a 3-bedroom home ($360)
  • a deep clean of a 2-bedroom ($360)
  • a move-out clean of a studio or 1-bedroom (often 5 work hours, $300, for a studio)

With two people, one can start in the bathrooms while the other takes the kitchen, and neither waits for the other’s equipment. That is how we usually split a house, and it means rooms get finished instead of left half-done.

If we finish early, you pay for the hours we worked. A 6 work hour quote that takes 5.5 is $330, not $360. If it looks like the job needs more time than quoted, we text you before the time is up, tell you what is left and continue only after your yes.

What should I prioritize if I book only a few hours?

Start with the rooms that look and feel dirty fastest, and leave the rest for the next visit. Our usual order when time is tight:

  1. Bathrooms: toilet, sink, shower or tub, mirror, floor.
  2. Kitchen: counters, stovetop, sink, microwave inside, the front of the fridge, floor.
  3. Floors in the rooms you walk through most.
  4. Dusting of surfaces at eye level and below.
  5. Bedrooms: beds made if linens are left out, nightstands, floors.
  6. Everything else, in the order you tell us.

The most useful thing you can do is send us your top three before the visit. “The guest bathroom, the kitchen and the stairs” turns a vague 3 hours into a clear plan. Clearing counters and floors before we arrive helps more than anything else, because time spent moving piles is time not spent cleaning.

What does not fit into a short cleaning visit?

Some jobs take time no matter how fast the cleaner is. They do not fit a 3 work hour maintenance visit:

  • inside the oven or fridge (add-ons at $56 each)
  • interior windows, tracks and sills ($86)
  • washing baseboards and door frames by hand
  • inside cabinets and drawers
  • descaling a shower that has not been cleaned properly in months
  • laundry, unless booked as an add-on ($46)
  • organizing closets or sorting papers, which we do not do

If most of those need doing, the right booking is a deep clean first, then short visits after. Our article on standard vs deep cleaning explains what a deep clean adds.

How many hours does a 3-bedroom house need?

From our price list, in work hours:

Service3-bedroom work hoursPrice
Weekly visitfixed price, not hourly$330
Every-two-weeks visitfixed price, not hourly$350
Monthly visitfixed price, not hourly$380
First standard clean6$360
Deep clean8$480
Move-out clean12$720

Bathrooms move these numbers more than bedrooms do. A 3-bedroom with three bathrooms takes longer than one with two. So do pets, a long gap since the last clean, and a kitchen that gets daily heavy cooking. We confirm the hours from 2–4 photos before the visit. Our prices for every home size are in house cleaning cost in Snohomish and King County and on the pricing page.

Is it better to book short visits often or long visits rarely?

For most homes, short and often. A 3-bedroom cleaned every week takes less time per visit than one cleaned monthly, which is why a weekly visit is $330 against $380 monthly, and the gap shows in between. Our comparison of weekly vs biweekly house cleaning has the monthly costs side by side. The exception is a home that has fallen behind: there, one long deep clean first saves money, because short visits on top of old buildup never quite catch up.

FAQ

Can I book one cleaner instead of two?

The price is the same either way, because we charge per work hour. Two of us finish in half the clock time, so you have cleaners in the house for less of the day. The one-time minimum is 4 work hours. Recurring visits have a fixed price per visit.

Do you clean houses in Bothell?

Yes. We are licensed in Bothell and nine other cities in Snohomish and King County, and the hourly rate is the same in each. Travel within those cities is included.

What if my home takes longer than you quoted?

We text you before the booked hours run out, say what is left and how long it needs, and keep going only if you say yes. If you say no, we finish the most important rooms in the time booked.

Do I pay for the full block if you finish early?

No. You pay for the hours we actually worked, never more than the written price without your yes and never less than the minimum.
