Standard Cleaning vs Deep Cleaning: What Is Actually Different

Standard cleaning vs deep cleaning: what each includes, when to book which, and 2026 prices in Snohomish & King County. Text for a written price.

By Yuri and Tatiana, owners of Shining Cleanse LLC, a family cleaning company based in Everett, WA and licensed in 10 cities across Snohomish and King County.

The difference between standard cleaning vs deep cleaning is depth and time. A standard clean maintains a home already in good shape: surfaces, floors, kitchen, bathrooms, trash, 5–6 work hours for a 2–3 bedroom home. A deep clean adds baseboards, inside cabinets, behind appliances, vents, fixtures and bathroom scale, takes 6–8 work hours, and starts at $300.

First-time clients in Lynnwood and our other licensed cities ask us this most. Here is how to decide.

What is the difference between a standard clean and a deep clean?

A standard cleaning covers what you see every day. A deep cleaning covers that plus the places a regular visit skips. The room-by-room list is in our deep cleaning checklist.

When should I book a deep cleaning instead of a regular one?

Standard is enough when:

  • You had a deep clean within the last six months
  • You clean lightly between visits
  • The home is generally tidy, with no heavy buildup

Book deep when:

  • It is your first professional cleaning
  • It has been more than six months since a thorough clean
  • Baseboards and vents have not been done in a while
  • You are hosting family or an event
  • The home had a renovation (quoted separately)

Moving out? Book a move-in/move-out clean instead. Still unsure? Read whether deep cleaning is worth it, or text us 2–4 photos and we tell you which one fits.

How much more does a deep cleaning cost?

About $60–$120 more than a first standard visit for the same home, because it takes 1–2 more work hours. We charge $120 an hour for the two of us ($60 per person-hour) and quote the hours in writing (pricing):

Home sizeStandard (first visit)Deep cleanMove-in / move-out
Studio or 1 bedroom$240 (4 work hours)$300 (5)$360 (6)
2 bedrooms$300 (5)$360 (6)$540 (9)
3 bedrooms$360 (6)$480 (8)$720 (12)

Do I need a deep clean before recurring service?

For most homes, yes. Standard cleanings do not get cleaner over time; they maintain the level you start at. So we suggest one deep clean first, then recurring visits: weekly from $270, every two weeks from $290 or monthly from $320 for a studio or 1 bedroom, a fixed price per visit. If your home is already in good shape, a first standard clean is enough. To set a monthly number for your household, see how much to spend on house cleaning.

FAQ

Is a deep clean the same as a move-out clean?

No. A move-out clean is a deep clean of an empty home, plus inside the fridge, inside the oven, inside every cabinet, and interior windows, tracks and sills. That is why it starts at $360 rather than $300.

Does a deep clean include carpet shampooing?

No. A deep clean includes thorough vacuuming. Hot water carpet extraction is an add-on at $59 per room with a two-room minimum when booked with a cleaning, done by hot water extraction, with air movers to speed drying.

Can I add the oven or fridge to a standard clean?

Yes. Inside the oven and inside the fridge are flat add-ons at $56 each on a standard or deep clean. Both are already included in a move-in/move-out clean.
